HAMILTON: W.P. Stewart & Co., Ltd. has reported net income
of $12.3 million, or $0.27 per share (diluted) and $0.27 per
share (basic), for the second quarter ended 30 June 2005. This
compares with net income in the second quarter of the prior
year of $13.8 million or $0.30 per share (diluted) and $0.31
per share (basic).

LONDON: British American Tobacco’s reported Group profit
from operations was slightly up at GBP1,253 million. However,
profit from operations was 8 per cent higher if exceptional
items and the changes in the Group resulting from the merger of
the Group’s US businesses with R.J. Reynolds and the sale of
Etinera, with the resulting change in terms of trade, are
excluded.
