SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ –

Compact, Low Power ICs Extend GPIO Resources by Offering Five or Six
Push/Pull Outputs

Advanced Analogic Technologies Incorporated (AnalogicTech) (Nasdaq: AATI),
a developer of power management semiconductors for mobile consumer electronic
devices, today announced the AAT4296 and AAT4298 I/O Expanders. Offering the
ability to manage up to six functions with a single control wire, these new
devices allow designers to simply and easily expand GPIO resources in portable,
battery-powered systems. The AAT4296 features five push/pull outputs, while the
AAT4298 offers six.

"As portable system designers develop new versions of their core design to
serve different market segments, they often need to add new features and
functions but find their original controller has limited GPIO resources," said
Erik Ogren, Product Marketing Manager for AnalogicTech. "With the AAT4296 and
AAT4298, designers can control these additional functions without altering
their original platform and, in the process, simplify their design, cut cost
and get to market quicker."

The state of each independent push/pull channel is controlled with a
single GPIO via the EN/SET pin using AnalogicTech’s Simple Serial Control(TM)
(S2Cwire(TM)) interface. The easy-to-use interface simply requires a string of
pulses, followed by a 500us latch time.

Both the AAT4296 and AAT4298 can facilitate voltage level-shifting as they
operate over a 1.8V to 5.0V input voltage range, with EN/SET voltage input
level as low as 1.4V.

To help meet the stringent power and space requirements of battery-powered
products, both devices consume just 3µA quiescent current typical and are
offered in small footprint packages.

Price and Availability
The AAT4296 is immediately available in a Pb-free, 8-pin, 2.0×2.2mm SC70JW
package and sells for $0.85 in 1,000-piece quantities. The AAT4298 is offered
in a Pb-free, 12-pin, 3.0×2.85mm TSOPJW package and sells for $0.92 in 1,000-
piece quantities. Both devices are specified across the -40 to +85 degrees C
temperature range.
