Robert S Kaplan LIVE in Singapore
~Turning Execution Into Competitive Advantage~
31st March 2006, Meritus Mandarin, Singapore

In the lead up to Professor Kaplan’s visit to Singapore at the end of March,
we asked him for his comments on the region and on his latest work.

See below for an excerpt of his comments:

I am very much looking forward to a series of seminars in the rapid economic
growth region of Southeast Asia coming up in late March. While my most recent
visit to this region was only 18 months ago I am pleased to be able to return
to share with you some of my most recent work that has occurred even in this
intervening period.

Our current book, called “Alignment”, which is the fourth in the Balanced
ScoreCard series that I have been doing with Dave Norton will just have been
published in March 2006 and I’ll be sharing with you some of the big ideas from
this book.

First, the enterprise value proposition – how corporate synergies are being
created so that having a collection of business units together in one
enterprise, will be more powerful and more valuable than if each were separate
in their own company.

Second, once we have that corporate strategy, or enterprise value
proposition, how do we align all the business units to the strategy?

These are the most recent work being done in the Balanced ScoreCard but I
have also been active in advancing Activity Based Costing.

And I also have an idea for how to combine these 2 powerful methodologies of
Balanced ScoreCard and Activity Based Costing.

So these are the new topics that I am very pleased to be able to take out to
Southeast Asia and that I’ll feature in my one day event. I think these will
be very important because as Asian companies continue to expand and compete in
the world market dealing with the colossus on their north which offers very low
cost and also high quality products, I think it becomes even more important for
Asian companies to truly understand to communicate and to implement the value
proposition that makes them distinctive in their customer’s mind, that
differentiates them.
