EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., May 30 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ –
MTS Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: MTSC) today announced a $1.3 million
contract with Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI) to provide multi-channel
fatigue testing system for railcar frames and bolsters. The system, consisting
of MTS controls, multiple actuators, and leading-edge MTS software, will be
used for durability tests on railroad vehicle components. KHI will use this
system to develop new subway vehicles, a new PA-5 series, for use in New York
and New Jersey in the United States.

Actuators will be attached to the railcar’s fame and bolster in vertical,
lateral and longitudinal orientations and provide multi-axial load input to the
specimen. Multi-axial load input will be controlled in-phase very accurately
by taking advantage of the multi-axial control technologies which use MTS’
proven fatigue testing capabilities used in many other aircraft and ground
vehicle applications.
