OTTAWA, Aug. 31 /CNW-AsiaNet/

Tundra Semiconductor Corporation (TSX: TUN), the leader in System
Interconnect, today announced that Emerson Network Power’s (NYSE: EMR) new
Embedded Computing business, formerly Artesyn Communication Products, has
implemented Tundra’s industry-leading Tsi568A Serial RapidIO Switch into the
Fat Pipe switch module in its new 12-slot MicroTCA development system, and is
working with Tundra on a series of additional Serial RapidIO designs.

The Tundra Tsi568A is a high-performance switch with patent-pending
technology that delivers the performance, power and configurability that
embedded designers need to build reliable, high-performance RapidIO-based
systems for a broad spectrum of wireless, video, and networking applications.
Based on the Serial RapidIO Specification, the Tsi568A incorporates SerDes
functionality, error recovery, priority-based and table-based fabric routing
and high payload efficiency. This switch interconnects Serial RapidIO-enabled
processors and peripheral devices, supporting an aggregate bandwidth of
80 gigabits per second. The switch also offers multiple port width and speed
configuration options to efficiently manage power requirements.

"Serial RapidIO is one of the technologies most desired for key MicroTCA
applications like gateways and wireless base stations, and Tundra enabled us
to provide this functionality in our newest development system," said Todd
Wynia, vice president of product management for Emerson’s new Embedded
Computing business. "AdvancedTCA, AdvancedMC, and MicroTCA are quickly
becoming the open architecture platforms of choice among network equipment
providers, and Tundra provides a stable, scalable and high-performance
interconnect solution that helps speed our time-to-market."

Emerson’s MicroTCA development system is equipped with a MicroTCA Carrier
Hub (MCH) module, power supply, Fat Pipe switch module, application/protocol
processing, and platform management software. The system was recently part of
a series of IMS and signaling demonstrations using Emerson’s new
AdvancedTCA(R) blades, AdvancedMC(TM) modules, and MicroTCA systems. The
company is currently developing additional MicoTCA designs for high-volume
access applications.

"We are proud to be collaborating in the evaluation and design of Emerson
Network Power’s next-generation Serial RapidIO-based systems," said Rick
O’Connor, chief technology officer at Tundra. "We recognize AdvancedTCA and
MicroTCA as fast-growing markets and we are committed to ensuring that the
RapidIO ecosystem, and Serial RapidIO interconnect, are a driving force behind
the momentum."

Tundra continues to lead in the development of the RapidIO standard and
was the first semiconductor vendor to bring Parallel and Serial RapidIO
switches to market. With numerous RapidIO switches launched and in production
and partner development platforms available, Tundra is recognized as the
market leader for advanced RapidIO System Interconnect. Tundra is committed to
bringing high-performance RapidIO products to market to meet the rapidly
growing demand from customers now designing with the RapidIO technology.

Availability and Design Support Tools

The Tundra Tsi568A is available through Tundra’s worldwide sales network.
Volume pricing for the Tsi568A is under $99USD. For design support tools and
device documentation, go to www.tundra.com/tsi568A. Using the Tundra Serial
RapidIO Development Platform (SRDP) and applications engineering support,
designers can commence early stage product development, later porting software
to their own prototype hardware platforms, resulting in faster time to market.

About MicroTCA(TM)

MicroTCA is a proposed PICMG specification for small form factor,
field-replaceable telecom chassis. Available in a variety of flexible form
factors (rack mount, cube, etc), MicroTCA chassis can accept any standard
AdvancedMC module. MicroTCA will provide scaleable aggregate bandwidth up to
612 Gbit/sec (per MCH), support star, dual-star, and full-mesh topologies,
employ a serial packet transport with up to 12.5 Gbit/sec of bandwidth per
channel, and provide a redundant Intelligent Peripheral Management Interface.
MicroTCA will also be protocol agnostic, enabling it to accommodate AdvancedMC
modules running a range of protocols including Ethernet, PCI Express/Advanced
Switching and Serial RapidIO.

About Tundra RapidIO(R) Switches

Tundra switches provide chip-to-chip interconnect between RapidIO
end-points and can replace existing proprietary backplane fabrics for
board-to-board interconnect. As a founding member of the RapidIO Trade
Association and long-time Steering Committee member, Tundra continues to
provide leadership in the development of the RapidIO standard and was the
first semiconductor vendor to bring Parallel and Serial RapidIO switches to
market. RapidIO is the leading serial interconnect standard for embedded
systems and is supported by industry leaders such as, Alcatel, AMCC, EMC
Corporation, Ericsson, Freescale Semiconductor, Lucent Technologies and Texas
Instruments. The Tundra family of RapidIO switches includes the Tsi576(TM),
Tsi574(TM), Tsi578(TM), Tsi568A, Tsi564A(TM) and Tsi500(TM).
