KUALA LUMPUR and DALLAS, TX., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ –
Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (ACS), a premier provider of business
process outsourcing and information technology solutions, announced today that
it donated RM24000 to MERCY Malaysia, a non-profit organization that provides
ailing communities with medical relief and disaster re-development.
The contribution has been earmarked for victims of the floods that ravaged
the country in December 2006 and January 2007, when heavy rainfall displaced
people, destroyed property, and ruined water and food supplies in areas such as
Johor and Pahang.
The donation was hand-delivered to Dr. Jemilah Mahmood, president of MERCY
Malaysia, on February 15, 2007. This charitable organization was chosen as the
recipient because of its two-fold mission: to provide immediate aid after a
crisis, and to help rebuild in the months after the acute crisis has passed.
Said Dr. Mahmood, "We want to thank ACS and its employees for their very
kind and generous contribution to our continuing relief efforts. It’s
especially gratifying to see local businesses support and give back to the
communities in which they operate, especially in times such as these."
For their relief efforts, employees made personal contributions to purchase
supplies for survivors and local ACS management organized a formal fundraising
campaign to support MERCY Malaysia.
ACS began operations in Malaysia in February 2003 and currently employs
more than 465 workers with plans to grow to 700 employees by the end of 2007.
The office serves clients in the communications, insurance, manufacturing, and
transportation and travel industries, with a variety of IT and BPO services
from systems engineering and applications management, to human resources
benefits administration and employee relocation services.
"ACS has a proud history of giving back to the communities of which it is a
part," said Aman Mustafa, ACS Vice President, Global Services Asia-Pacific.
"While our company was glad to make this donation, it is our employees who
really deserve recognition for reaching into their hearts and pockets to help
make a difference. Many of them have even spent their free time helping to
clean up hard-hit areas."
Mustafa added, "Our thoughts are with the flood victims, and we hope that
MERCY Malaysia can help alleviate their troubles in the short and long term."
