MATSUYAMA, July 2 /Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet/–

MIURA Co., Ltd.(head office: Matsuyama City, Ehime Pref., Yuji Takahashi,
President), the leading manufacturer of small once-through boiler, has
developed a technology which dramatically reduces the nitrogen oxide(NOx)
concentration in the exhaust gas of gas-fired steam boilers to below 1ppm(at
O2=0% equivalent) compared to the 25ppm of conventional boilers.

Background

NOx in the atmosphere reacts with the ultraviolet ray in the sunlight and forms
photochemical oxidant which causes photochemical smog. It is one of the
typical air pollutant.

In Japan, legislations and regulations which regulate the emission
concentration for each equipment or the total amount of emission from an
institution as a photochemical smog measure are enforced. Global trend is
moving in the direction of tightening the regulations. For example, there is a
movement in Los Angeles, California to regulate the NOx in the exhaust gas to
9ppm, and in Washington, it has already been regulated to 9ppm since 2006.
Japanese boiler market has been technically innovating against this
background. Now, in addition to Miura’s non-furnace boiler with corrugate
burner, this new combustion control method and catalyst technology enable to
lower the NOx concentration as low as 1ppm and below.

Product Features

-The NOx concentration of 1ppm and below (at continuous operation), which is
1/25 of the current products, can contribute to the improvement of the
environment.

-Adopting the new combustion control method which keeps the theoretical air
ratio, made it possible to reduce 20% heat loss compared to the current
products.

-Environmentally-friendly for using catalyser which does not use chemicals such
as urea, ammonia, etc.

Future Development

Miura will continue developing for commercial production, and promote
improvement of the environment in the world. Release for practical use in
Japan is planned for 2008-2009. After that, the first overseas operation will
be in North American and Korean markets where Miura has the local manufacturing
plants.
